Life Goal: Growth in Wisdom Exercise

Download as a PDF to print and complete by hand.

Alternatively you can read the notes below and make use of the following goal-setting questions.

Focus for 2021

As you begin 2021:

  • What is your plan for growing in wisdom?
  • How does it fit with God’s call on your life — who he wants you to be?
  • Which TJT rhythm do you think may fit well with that someday direction taking into account your current commitments and pace of life? (Involved: Citizens course; Intensive: Renewing Me, Breath, Christianity Explored; or Regular: Word & Prayer, One-to-One, Book Club.)

In clarifying your someday goal, here are further questions that may help you get started:

  • What’s one area of your life that God’s put his finger on? A particular area where he’s already been calling you to change and grow?
  • What do you think Christian maturity looks like in that area?

Goal Setting Exercise

(These questions have been taken from Shawn Blanc’s ‘The Focus Course’ and applied to growth in wisdom.)

  1. For my growth in wisdom, what is one thing I want to do, be, or have someday?
  2. Based on my someday goal, what is one thing I can do 5 years from now that will put me on track to accomplish it?
  3. Based on my 5-year goal, what is one thing I can do in the next year that will put me on track to accomplish it?
  4. Based on my 1-year goal, what is one thing I can do in the next month that will put me on track to accomplish it?
  5. Based on my one-month goal, what is one thing I can do in the next week that will put me on track to accomplish it?
  6. Based on my one-week goal, what is one thing I can do today that will put me on track to accomplish it?

Let's Make it Personal

Discussion.

Reflection questions:

  1. What are you feeling impatient about today?

  2. What are you finding yourself speaking against God about?

  3. When have you recently experienced God’s protection?
